The Telangana High Court (HC) on the 30th of July, asked the Telangana Government to take action against illegal animal slaughtering.

During a case hearing, filed by Dr. Shashikala Kopanati, the Court directed the HC to take strict action against illegal animal slaughtering in the view of Bakri eid.

Dr. Shashikala Kopanati approached the Telangana HC and urged them to ban illegal transport and butchering of animals.

She said the Telangana Government is not taking any action against the illegal slaughtering.

The petition was filed under the provisions of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and other acts for animal protection.

During the hearing, the representative of Telangana Government said they have inspected slaughtering houses in Hyderabad and Rangareddy and booked two cases in those districts.

The court also made it clear that the action should be taken according to rules and acts framed by the Government.

Recalling the spread of coronavirus by consuming bats in China, the court observed that there are chances of disease spread with the animal meat.

It also questioned the GHMC officials if they have carried out an inspection at the slaughtering houses any time and asked them to submit a report on it within two weeks.

The next hearing regarding the same is expected to be within two weeks.

Stay tuned for further updates.
