The Telangana High Court (HC,) on the 29th of November, gave a green signal to the Telangana Government to conduct Municipal elections in Telangana.

The Telangana Court said the State Government can go ahead with the legal procedure for the Municipal elections in the State.  It also asked the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to reorganise the municipal elections process and removed the restriction on election of some constituencies of Siddipet and Yamnapet.  Earlier the HC restricted municipal elections on some municipalities of Siddipet and Yamnampet, due to unknown reasons.

The Court also said the Telangana HC would not interfere in the election process and the State Government can conduct the elections freely.  However, the Telangana HC cancelled a notification issued by the TRS Government regarding ward division and amendments in Voter’s list.

The court also advised that the process should be completed within 14 days and asked the State Govermment to release a fresh notification regarding the municipal elections.

There are 13 corporations and 128 municipalities in the State which would conduct the civic body polls.

However, 10 corporations’ elections would be conducted after the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections in Khammam and Warangal are completed.

The official announcement regarding the dates of the Municipal elections is yet to be made.
