Telangana HC Hears Petition Against Ganesh Immersion, Asks Govt To Submit Precautions’ Report

On the 7th of September, Tuesday, the Telangana High Court (HC) reviewed a petition regarding the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration amid the Wuhan virus pandemic.

Mr. Venu Madhav, an advocate of the Telangana HC, filed a petition, demanding cancellation of Ganesh idol immersion at Hussain Sagar, Tank Bund, Hyderabad. While reviewing the petition, the Chief Justice of Telangana Ms. Hima Kohli lashed out at the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government for not submitting a report on the measures to be taken for the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.

During the hearing, the Telangana HC questioned the TRS Government on its stance on the Ganesh idol immersion, especially during the Novel Coronavirus pandemic. The court also expressed disappointment over the report submitted by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC.) It is to be noted, the GHMC officials submitted a report regarding the Ganesh idol immersion, just ten minutes prior to the court hearing.

The HC bench said, “It seems the Government has no interest to resolve the issues pertaining to the Ganesh immersion.”

With this, the Court asked the Telangana Government to submit a detailed report on the Ganesh idol immersion and celebration. It also asked the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS Government to ensure COVID-19 protocols are being followed by everyone during the festive mood of Ganesh Chaturthi.
