Telangana High Court Gives Assent To Conduct Municipal Elections

On the 8th of January, the Telangana High Court gave the green light to the Telangana Government to issue the notification regarding the Municipal elections in the State and conduct the elections.

The Telangana Government was scheduled to issue the notification regarding the Municipal elections on the 7th of January.

However, Uttam Kumar Reddy, the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC,) filed a petition against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) with a demand to stall the elections.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the Municipal elections’ notification does not follow the rules and regulations regarding reservation and restricts Scheduled Castes (SCs,) Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Backward Classes (BCs) from contesting the elections.

The Telangana High Court reviewed the case on the 7th of January and asked the State Government to wait until further orders for issuing the notification.

On the 8th of January, the Telangana High Court approved the elections’ proceedings and directed the State Government to go ahead with the Municipal elections.

With the approval of the Telangana High Court, the TRS is expected to issue the notification regarding the Municipal elections on the 8th of January.

Stay tuned for further updates.
