G. Premender Reddy, the General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana, said Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, will not visit Telangana as planned.

G. Premender Reddy, accompanied by N. Srivardhan, the Chairman of the Telangana Vimochana Committee, on the 13th of September, addressed the media.  During the press conference, they said Amit Shah will not take part in the public meeting as planned earlier, but a Union Minister will visit Telangana and continue the meeting as per the schedule.

Amit Shah was scheduled to visit Telangana on the 17th of September, for a public meeting in Patancheru, Telangana.  The BJP organised the meeting to celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day and hoist the tricolor in polling booths across the State.

On the 17th of September, the BJP will also conduct Tiranga Yatra rallies at its mandal, municipal and district headquarters.

The occasion is significant for Telangana as, on the 17th of September 1948, Hyderabad was officially included in India and got freedom from the Nizams’ rule.  The BJP also demanded an official celebration of the Telangana Liberation Day.

Despite several attempts by the BJP, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) did not agree to celebrate the day.  According to the TRS Government, the celebration could disturb the harmony of the State, as some believe it was a day of freedom from the Nizams, while others believe it was one of Hyderabad’s darkest days.

On the other hand, the BJP deemed it as a political issue and said the TRS does not want to lose Muslim vote banks, due to which, the Party is not celebrating the historically important day.

The BJP will submit a memorandum to Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, regarding the official celebration of the Telangana Liberation Day.

Stay tuned for further updates.
