Telangana Liberation Day – KTR Hoists National Flag At Telangana Bhavan

K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development and Information Technology, Electronics and Communication Minister of Telangana, hoisted the National Flag at the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) office, the Telangana Bhavan.

On the 17th of September, 1948, Hyderabad was officially included in India and got freedom from the Nizams’ rule.  Since then, the day is marked as Telangana Liberation Day.

Several TRS leaders, activists and ministers were present during the flag hoisting ceremony.  Although the TRS does not celebrate the day officially to maintain harmony in the State, they hoist the tricolour at the TRS office.  Before KTR, Nayini Narsimha Reddy, a former TRS minister and senior leader, used to hoist the tricolour at the Telangana Bhavan.

Speaking about the demands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to celebrate the day, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, said the Telangana Liberation Day was on the 2nd of June 2014, not the 17th of September, 1948.

He addressed the AP Assembly Budget session and said the 2nd of June 2014 was an important day and will be celebrated officially as it was the day of freedom for Telangana.  The 2nd of June is formally known as the Telangana Formation Day. He further added the TRS will, however, continue the tradition of hoisting the tricolour on the 17th of September at the Telangana Bhavan.

While the TRS refused to celebrate the 17th of September as the Telangana Liberation Day officially, the BJP organised rallies and events in the State for the day.  The BJP will conduct a public meeting in Patancheru, Telangana and conduct Tiranga Yatra rallies across Telangana.

Stay tuned for further updates.
