Telangana Municipal Elections Conducted Smoothly, Results On 25th January

Telangana conducted its Municipal elections smoothly on the 22nd of January.

The public voted for 12,900 candidates contesting for 120 municipalities and nine corporations.  The elections were originally scheduled to be held for 10 corporations, but due to irregularities and an untoward incident, they were held for 9 corporations.  The elections for the 1 remaining corporation, the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation, would be held on the 25th of January and the results of these would be declared on the 27th of January.

Approximately 70.26 % voters performed their franchise between 7:00 A.M., and 5:00 P.M.

After the polls, Jitender, the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order,) addressed a press conference and spoke about the elections.

According to the Indian National Congress (INC) leaders, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party misused its power to influence the voters.

An INC leader said, “It is unfortunate that the ruling party resorted to misuse of power during these elections. They tried to win the elections with money power. We feel that this is not good for democracy.”

According to Election Commission (EC) officials, out of 2,971 wards, the BJP filled candidates in 700 wards, whereas the INC filled candidates in only 400 wards.

For the first time in India, the EC used a facial recognition app for voters to cast their votes.  Since it was a pilot project, only ten polling stations in the Kompally Municipality of Medchal-Malkajgiri district were selected for the same.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Working President of the TRS, is confident about winning the elections.

On the other hand, the BJP also hopes the results are in favour of the Party.

The results of the Municipal elections held for the 9 corporations would be announced on the scheduled date, the 25th of January.

Stay tuned for further updates.
