The Election Commission (EC) of Telangana is soon going to announce the dates for the Municipal elections in the State.  On the 2nd of November, the State Cabinet Ministers conducted a Cabinet meeting and discussed the Municipal elections, which are scheduled to be held in November.

The EC is expected to announce the official dates of the polls in the upcoming week.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government conducted the meeting, which was chaired by K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana.

The State is expected to conduct the elections for 120 municipalities and 9 municipal corporations over two phases.  According to sources, in the first phase, 53 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) which have no legal issues would conduct the polls, whereas in the second phase, the remaining 76 ULBs are expected to hold their elections.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister and the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana, directed the civic body officials to make the arrangements.

The decision to announce the official dates in the coming week came after the Telangana High Court gave a green signal to the TRS Government to go ahead with the civic body polls.

A senior official of the EC of Telangana said, “Conducting municipal polls in two phases will address major issues such as poll arrangements and pending court cases. While the second phase of municipal polls can be held at a later date as per the High Court directions, we can scale down arrangements like manpower and other material. However, a final decision will be taken in consultation with the State Government.”

Approximately 79.92 lakh voters are expected to vote in the Municipal polls and 8,056 polling stations will be set up in 3,103 wards across Telangana.

Stay tuned for further updates.
