Ram Nath Kovind, the President of India, on the 13th of August, ordered the Telangana Government to submit a report about all the students who committed suicide due to Intermediate results 2019.
The Telangana Office Secretary confirmed the orders and said, “The communique was received by BJP Telangana State President K Laxman. The report is sought from the Chief Secretary of Telangana Government immediately.”
The decision of President Kovind came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana sought justice for the families of the 27 students who committed suicide after the results were declared.
Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, also sent a letter to S.K. Joshi, the Secretary of State and asked him to submit the report. Ashok Kumar Pal, the Under Secretary of the Home Ministry of India, forwarded both the letters, the President’s letter and Amit Shah’s letter.
According to the allegations made by the students’ families and the BJP in Telangana, the students took their lives due to the goof up caused by the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE.)
The TSBIE declared the Intermediate (Inter) results for 2019, following which, many students claimed there was incorrect evaluation and demanded re evaluation.
Later, K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR,) the Chief Minister of Telangana, formed a committee to investigate the matter and announced the answer sheets would be reverified free of charge.
However, according to the TSBIE, even after the re evaluation, the students who committed suicide failed the exams.
The BJP deemed the situation as a political one and demanded an investigation for the same.
