Telangana To Celebrate Bathukamma Festival

Telangana is all set to celebrate the Bathukamma festival.  On the 24th of September, K. Kavitha, the President of the Telangana Jagruthi (TJ,) released a poster designed by the TJ in Nizamabad and announced the grand Bathukamma celebration in Telangana.

The Telangana Jagruthi is a socio culture non governmental organisation (NGO.)  The Telangana Jagruthi stands as a strong organisation today, with a membership of approximately 2,30,000 members.  The main agenda of the organisation is to empower the women and youth of Telangana and provide them employment.

Founded by K. Kavitha, the Telangana Jagruthi is preparing to celebrate the Bathukamma festival worldwide during the 9 days of Navratri. 

Bathukamma marks the end of monsoon and the beginning of autumn and is primarily celebrated by women.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) on the 23rd of September, announced it would distribute 1 crore sarees to women who are below poverty line (BPL.)

K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister and the Information Technology, Electronics and Communications Minister of Telangana, officially launched the scheme and promised to distribute sarees to women as a gift.

During the occasion, KTR said, “It is a token gift for one crore sisters of Telangana from the chief minister, who has been taking care of their welfare as an elder brother. By wearing new colourful sarees, the womenfolk will add a new colour to Bathukamma, a floral festival, celebrated across the state with a lot of gaiety.”

The State Government spent approximately Rs. 313 crores on manufacturing the sarees and ordered the sarees in advance.  The saree distribution started from the 24th of September and will continue till the 28th of September.

Kavitha, on the 24th of September, said various events will be organised every day till Saddula Bathukamma. 

Apart from Telangana, the TJ will celebrate Bathukamma in many countries around the world.  Kavitha said, “Bathukamma has been promoting values and has added spiritual significance to the daily lives of people.  Our organisation has spread across the globe in a very short period of time. Like every year, we will celebrate the Bathukamma festival in Mumbai, and also in countries like the United States of America (U.S.A.,) Australia, U.K., Europe, Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and in many other Middle East countries.”

Bathukamma will start from the 28th of September and the festivities will continue till the 6th of October.
