The Telangana High Court (HC) division bench headed by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice C.V. Bhaskar Reddy is scheduled to hear a writ petition filed by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)

Recently, Mr. Soma Bharat, the TRS General Secretary filed a plea in the Telangana High Court, seeking directions to the Telangana Election Commission, the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer(TCEO) and the Election Commission of India to delete all election symbols similar to TRS logo which is a car.  The purpose of the petition was to avoid identical symbols, which would confuse the voters in the upcoming Munugode Assembly by election.  The petitioner further contends that independent candidates who are in the fray of ensuing the Munugodu by election, having identical election symbols are damaging the prospects of TRS candidate’s win.

The majority of voters, who might get confuse and could accidentally vote to the wrong party are belong to Illiterate and senior voters, especially those from rural backgrounds.  Concluding the plea, the TRS leader Mr. Soma Bharat said, the ECl has hundreds of election symbols, which could be allocated to independent candidates.

Mr. Soma Bharat stated that he approached the ECI and the TCEO on the 10th of  October, and gave a representation seeking the deletion of certain identical and look alike to election symbol car of TRS for the Munugodu by-elections.  However, there was no response from either of the offices, hence he filed a petition in the Telangana High Court in this regard.

Notably, the Munugode by election is scheduled to be held on the 3rd of November, whereas the results would be announced on the 6th of November.

A total of 127 candidates, including independent candidates are in the fray for the Munugode Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) seat.

The court hearing is underway.
