The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is all set to begin the distribution of Bathukamma sarees to eligible women.
This year, the distribution of Bathukamma sarees would begin from the 2nd of October in the districts of Telangana. However, distribution in Karimnagar and Hanamkonda regions are said to be delayed due to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in effect due to the upcoming Huzurabad Assembly by election.
However, the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government is approaching the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) to take a call regarding the saree distribution in these regions.
Meanwhile, nearly one crore sarees have been woven in Sircilla and reached the districts of Telangana for distribution. Ten thousand handloom families spent around six months weaving one crore sarees. This year, the sarees are woven in 17 patterns and 290 colour combinations, prints and designs for women of Telangana.
District collectors are directed to supervise and ensure smooth distribution of Bathukamma sarees. A total of 15,012 distribution centres would be set up across The State.
The TRS Government released an amount of Rs. 318 crores for the purchase of Bathukamma sarees.
The sarees would be distributed to women above 18 years old, who have a White Ration Card.
