The efforts of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is now taking the next step, with continuous meetings and discussion over more schemes for Dalits in Telangana.

On the 26th of July, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, conducted a meeting over the Dalit empowerment mission and soon to launch, the Dalit Bandhu scheme.

In addition to the Dalit Bandhu scheme, the KCR led TRS proposed to introduce more schemes like the Dalit Bheema scheme, providing financial assistance to Dalit families. Under the proposed Dalit Bheema scheme, the TRS Government would provide insurance cover for the families in case of untimely death of the bread earner of the family.  It would help them get financial help up to Rs. 5 lakh.

In regard to this, the State CM asked the State Scheduled Caste (SC) Development Department to adopt 3 pronged strategy to implement the Dalit Bandhu scheme.

The State Government would also resolve their land issues and would help them financially to build houses, solve land disputes and other issues in the State.  The proposed pilot projects and schemes would be launched from the Huzurabad Assembly constituency.

During yesterday’s meeting, the State Government also discussed the reservations for Dalits in government sponsored businesses like liquor shops, rice mills, medical shops and fertiliser shops.  The CM also directed the officials to identify other sectors where Dalits could grow economically.

Though the TRS Government is working with a fast pace for the growth of the Dalit Community in Telangana, the timing of doing so has been criticised.  The opposition are questioning the main agenda behind such welfare schemes and accusing the TRS of doing such welfare activities for gaining votes and support.

It is to be noted, the Huzurabad Assembly constituency is soon going to conduct a by election for the vacant Legislative Assembly (MLA) seat.  After the former MLA Eatala Rajender resigned from the post and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) the post fell vacant.

The Huzurabad by elections are due to be held soon.  The official dates of the elections are scheduled to be released by the Election Commission of India (ECI.)
