Uttam Kumar Reddy, the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC,) offered to resign from his post.
On the 11th of November, Uttam Kumar Reddy met Sonia Gandhi, the President of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and extended his resignation.
Mr. Reddy said he took responsibility for the recent defeat of the INC in the Huzurnagar by election and wished to submit his resignation.
Huzurnagar conducted its by election on the 21st of October and the result was announced on the 24th of October.
Uttam Padmavathi Reddy, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) candidate of the Indian National Congress (INC,) lost against S. Saidi Reddy, the MLA candidate of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS.)
Uttam Kumar Reddy was accompanied by his wife, Padmavathi Reddy, to meet Sonia Gandhi on the 11th of November in Delhi. During the meeting, Mr. Reddy urged the AICC President to find a successor and appoint a new TPCC President.
If the AICC accepts the resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior INC leaders A. Revanth Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, D. Sridhar Babu, T. Jagga Reddy and K. Jana Reddy are in the fray to be the new TPCC President.
The INC is expected to decide about the resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy and the appointment of a new TPCC President after the 16th of November.
The reason for the delay in making a final decision is the upcoming Municipal elections in Telangana. The Election Commission of Telangana is soon expected to announce the official dates for the civic body polls.
