Veteran filmmaker of the Telugu Film Industry Mr. K. Viswanath passed away at midnight on the 2nd of February, Thursday.

The renowned filmmaker and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee was suffering from age related issues and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana.  

Mr. K.Viswanath, popularly known as ‘Kalatapasvi’, was born in February 1930 in Andhra Pradesh.  He started his film journey as a sound artist and soon became a famous name not only in the Telugu Cinema but a renowned filmmaker in Tamil and Hindi film industries also.  He was also the 48th recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema. He was conferred with the award for the year 2016. His other honours include the Padma Shri in 1992, five National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards (given by the Andhra Pradesh government) and 10 Filmfare trophies including the Lifetime Achievement award.

Mr. K. Viswanath debuted as a director with Aatma Gowravam (1965,) which starred Akkineni Nageswara Rao and won the Nandi Award for the best feature film.

After his debut movie, Mr. K. Viswanath made films like Chelleli Kapuram (1971,) Sarada (1973,) O Seeta Katha (1974) and Jeevana Jyoti (1975.)  In 1970s, he directed approximately 50 movies and became a prominent name in the Telugu film industry.  Some of the award winning films directed by K. Viswanath are Sankarabharanam (1980,) Saptapadi (1981,) Kaamchor (1982,) Sagara Sangamam (1983,) Swati Mutyam (1985,) Jaag Utha Insaan (1984) and Sanjog (1985.)

 Telangana Chief Minister Mr. K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and other Telugu states leaders expressed their condolences over the death of Mr. K. Viswanath.

Meanwhile, the last rites of Mr. K. Viswanath is expected to be held on the 3rd of February.
