The Telangana Government advised women tehsildars across Telangana to carry pepper sprays with them to the workplace.

The decision to carry pepper sprays came after Vijaya Reddy, the Tehsildar of Abdullahpurmet, was burnt alive over a land issue.

The incident took place on the 4th of November when Suresh allegedly poured petrol on Vijaya Reddy and set her on fire.  Two days after Vijaya Reddy was killed, Suresh died at the Osmania General Hospital.

The incident created anger and raised questions about the safety of women tehsildars across Telangana.  Acting upon the concern of the women Mandal Revenue Officers (MROs,) the State Government asked them to carry pepper sprays to stay safe.

They were also asked to be more cautious while meeting people in their offices.  Visitors will have to go security checks and are restricted from carrying any bags while meeting MROs.

S. Ramulu, Head of the Telangana Tahsildars’ Association, said people who come to meet the MROs have to undergo security checks and would be allowed with only their petitions in their hands.

The Tahsildars’ Association also decided to install CCTV cameras at the entrance of the offices to keep an eye on who comes to meet the tehsildars, especially women tehsildars.

However, an official announcement regarding the implementation of the aforementioned measures is yet to be made.

Stay tuned for further updates.
