Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, the President of the newly floated YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) was taken into custody.

According to sources, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila started a protest at Singareni Colony, demanding justice for the six year old rape victim.

On the 9th of September, a six year old girl was allegedly raped and murdered. The incident roiled the people of Telangana, who went on to the streets and asked for strict punishment to the culprit.

In regard to the same, the YSRTP President, Y.S. Sharmila, met with the victim’s family and expressed condolences. She also staged a protest, which was without permission from the State Police.

Despite the denial from the Hyderabad Police, Ms. Sharmila staged the protest, due to which she was taken into custody. Later, on Wednesday night, she was dropped off at her residence in Hyderabad by the City Police. She also suffered minor injuries after a scuffle took place during her arrest.

Responding to the arrest, Ms. Y.S. Sharmila questioned the permission given to other ministers to visit the victim’s house, whereas she has been arrested for the same. She also criticised the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government, for failing to ensure safety to women and girls and giving strict punishment to rapists and criminals.

She also accused the K. Chandrashekar Rao Government of failing to prevent crimes and drug culture in Telangana.

Besides Ms. Y.S. Sharmila, Mr. Pawan Kalyan, the President of the JanaSena Party, also visited the six year old’s family and assured justice to the victim.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Police has issued a lookout notice for the accused. The State Police also formed 15 teams of police officials to nab the absconding accused in the Saidabad Rape case.
