The Home Ministry announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security would be strengthened. This comes after reports of an assassination plot against Modi by the Maoists.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a high level meeting today to discuss PM Modi’s security. Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Director Intelligence Bureau Rajiv Jain were present at the meeting.
The Home Minister instructed the officials to take consultation from other security agencies to add suitable measures to strengthen the PM’s security. The Ministry has ordered a report from the Maharashtra Police listing individuals linked to Maoists organizations.
On the 7th of June, the Police informed a Pune Court that a letter was found in a Delhi residence belonging to alleged Maoists. The letter mentioned the assassination of Modi in an “another Rajiv Gandhi type incident.”
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a suicide bombing in Tamil Nadu.
