Pakistan Reacts To Suspended Foreign Meet

The Pakistan Government is distressed with the Indian Government’s decision to call off the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of both the countries which was scheduled to take place on Friday. The suspension came following the killing of 3 policemen in South Kashmir.

The Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and her counterpart from Pakistan, Mahmood Qureshi, were due to have a meeting alongside the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.

The Pakistan Government stated the reason given by the Indian Government to be completely baseless and they played no role in the killing of the policemen.

Islamabad issued a statement, “The reasons cited by the Indian side for the decision to cancel the Foreign Ministers’ meeting, within 24 hours of its public confirmation, are entirely unconvincing. The so-called “disturbing developments” alluded to in the Indian statement predated the Indian agreement to hold the bilateral meeting in New York.” In addition, they said, “Pakistan Rangers also extended help in efforts to locate the soldier’s body. These facts were known to the Indian authorities and a part of the Indian media also reported that Pakistan had refuted its involvement. Yet, this motivated and malicious propaganda continued. Pakistan takes this opportunity to categorically reject these allegations once again. Our authorities would be prepared to conduct a joint investigation to establish the truth.”

According to sources, Pakistan alleged India for spreading rumours regarding Pakistan’s involvement in the attack. Pakistan further added, India’s accusations against them and the decision to call off the meeting only adds to the speculation.

Ministry of External Affairs’ Spokesperson and Joint Secretary Raveesh Kumar stated, “After Imran Khan’s letter, we thought Pakistan is moving towards positive change, a new beginning. But now it seems behind their proposal were evil intentions.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan wrote to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a formal step toward a better relationship between both the countries. The Pakistan Government is disheartened by the allegations and said India missed an opportunity to improve the relationship and peace between the two countries.
