More than 50 soldiers were killed in an attack by the Taliban on Mazar-i-Sharif. The suicide bombers dressed as military personnel entered the National Army base in Afghanistan. Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi tweeted about this incident and condemned it.

The PM called this attack a ”cowardly terror attack” and sent condolences to the families of the deceased. Mr. Modi wrote, “Strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Mazar-i-Sharif. Our prayers and condolences to the families who lost loved ones.”

 

According to a report by Zulmay Wesa, commander of 209th corps in Balkh province, a group of suicide bombers with two army vehicles managed to enter the camp on Friday noon. When they were stopped at the second gate one of the members of Taliban blew himself up. This distracted the Army personneland helped in Taliban entering the base. The terrorists then opened fire on the ANA soldiers praying at Mazar-i-Sharif.

Reports said there were three to five people firing Kalashnikovs at the masjid . Another burst of gun fire was released at the dining hall where more than 50 jawans were killed in the both the attacks. Condemning this attack, US Commander John Nicholson said,“The attack on the 209th Corps today shows the barbaric nature of the Taliban. They killed soldiers at prayer in a mosque and others in a dining facility.”
