On Wednesday, twin suicide bombings rocked a bus terminal in Jakarta, the Indonesian Capital. At least three police officers were killed in this attack.
Apart from three killed, five officers and five civilians were also severely wounded in the attack. Vice National Police Chief Syafruddin said, “Tonight, to Indonesian citizens and all of us who are here at the scene, I express very deep concern. A bomb explosion has occurred and for now, it is believed to have been a suicide bombing.”
These blasts occurred near the Kampung Melayu terminal, a station that serves buses and also minivans. This is a working class district in eastern part of Jakarta and luckily not popular among tourists or foreigners. Andry Wibowo, the Police Chief of East Jakarta said that the damage in the area was ‘pretty big.’
Indonesia is one of the world’s most populous Muslim countries and previously terror attacks were claimed by the Islamic State. However, no organization has claimed responsibility for these attacks yet.
