The Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC,) heard a petition against the reopening of schools in the State.

On the 13th of August, a bench of the A.P., HC reviewed a petition that was filed demanding rethinking on the decision of reopening of schools.

It is to be noted, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Government decided to reopen schools and conduct offline classes from the 16th of August. Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., took the decision after considering and reviewing the ongoing Wuhan virus, also known as the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation. Following the controlled situation, the YSRCP President decided to reopen schools and conduct offline classes from the 16th of August.

However, a few parents filed a petition against the reopening, stating that amid the new variant and the possible third wave, reopening of schools could be dangerous.

During yesterday’s court hearing, advocates representing the YSRCP Government and the petitioner, argued and tried to make their point.

While the petitioner said, vaccination for school staff and teachers are not yet fully completed and the situation would be unsafe for children, the opposite party (YSRCP’s advocate) said the State Government has made all the necessary arrangements to conduct the classes.

Adimulapu Suresh, the Education Minister of A.P., also said, the Education Department is working to ensure the safety of children and people, working at the hospital.

In the end, after hearing both the sides and argument, the Andhra Pradesh High Court adjourned the matter to the 18th of August.
