AP High Court Approves To Conduct Municipal Elections As Scheduled

The final decision over the conduct of the Andhra Pradesh Municipal elections has been made on the 26th of February. The Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) gave a green signal for the Municipal elections in the State to be held.

With this, the State Election Commission (SEC) and N. Ramesh Kumar, the A.P., State Election Commissioner are allowed to begin preparations for the local body elections.

On Friday, the HC was reviewing 16 petitions filed against the Municipal elections. The petitioner also demanded the SEC to release fresh notification regarding the elections and postponed the dates.

However, the HC dismissed all the petitions regarding this and cleared the way for the SEC to conduct civic polls. The Court said that they can’t interfere and issue a stay on the elections as the process of elections is already going on.

The Court also directed the SEC to conduct the municipal elections as per the notification.

According to the previously issued notification, the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Elections are scheduled to be held on the 10th of March.

On the 15th of February, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar announced elections for 12 corporations and 75 municipalities in Andhra Pradesh Municipal Corporation.

According to the schedule, the nomination started immediately and withdrawal of nominations would be from 3:00 P.M., from the 2nd of March to the 3rd of March.

The final list of candidates would be released after 3:00 P.M., on the 3rd of March.

Eligible citizens could vote from 7:00 A.M., till 5:00 P.M, on the 10th of March.

This time, the polling would be done twice, while the first time voters could vote on the 10th of March, but due to any reasons, if polling is disturbed, re polling would be held on the 13th of March.

The results of the Civic Polls would be announced on the evening of the 14th of March.
