On the 9th of September, the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Police arrested the General Secretary of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Mr. Nara Lokesh.

According to sources, Mr. Nara Lokesh was on his way to Narasaraopet to meet the family of Ms. Anusha, who was recently murdered in the State. It is to be noted, the TDP Working President Mr. Nara Lokesh was scheduled to visit Narasaraopet and meet the family members of Ms. Anusha, who was murdered in February.

On the 24th of February 2021, a girl named Anusha was brutally murdered by her classmate. She was strangled to death and her body was then dumped in a nearby canal. Later, the accused, identified as Vishnuvardhan Reddy, surrendered himself to the police. He was scheduled to meet the family, but denied permission from the State Police due to some reasons.

To avoid chaos at Narasaraopet, Mr. Nara Lokesh was taken under police custody from the airport. The arrest triggered TDP leaders and activists prevailing tension at the Gannavaram Airport and other regions. The TDP activists and leaders expressed anger and criticised the ruling Government behind the arrest.

Besides the arrest of Mr. Nara Lokesh, the A.P., Police house arrested many senior TDP leaders and detained activists. In addition, Mr. Nara Lokesh also criticised the arrest and said, as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) he does not need permission and there is no criminal case regarding the same. However, he accepted his mistake of rashly driving a tractor. He asked the police why there is a law and order problem in Guntur and not anywhere else.

Meanwhile, the TDP leaders demanded that the police tell them where Mr. Lokesh was being moved. To control the situation, the Police had to place a few TDP leaders under house arrest and beef up security in Narasaraopet, check posts from Vijayawada to the Gannavaram Airport.
