On the 12th of October, the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) clarified about the excess charges of bus services.
During a press meet, Mr. E.D.K.S.B. Reddy, the Head of the APSRTC Operations Department said, the recent 50 % surcharge is because of the special buses running for Dussehra. However, the 50 % extra charge is not for all buses, but buses providing special services for luxurious travel.
It is to be noted, for Dussehra festival, the State RTC are running additional buses with special services to make travel easy for commuters.
During the festival season, people would travel to visit their native places, due to which there would be a rush amongst people. To avoid the rush, the Andhra Pradesh Government approved the additional buses. Mr. E.D.K.S.B. Reddy said of the 348 buses plying daily from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana, there are no additional charges. In total, 4,000 buses are being operated from Andhra Pradesh to Telangana.
Mr. Reddy said, “After COVID-19, as part of the interstate agreement, the buses had to be reduced on the kilometer basis.” He also said that RTC buses plying to various parts of Telangana, including Hyderabad, are getting good response from passengers during Dussehra.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the RTCs of the two Telugu states are operating the special buses for people on Dussehra.
