On the 26th of May, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders went for a day long fast and protested against the Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) Government for issuing abeyance orders to sell Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) property.

On the night of the 25th of May, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) issued an order regarding the TTD properties public auction.

The order read, “Keeping in view the sentiments of the devotees, the Government hereby directs TTD to re-examine the issue in consultation with different stakeholders.”

The TTD decided to auction the properties due to the losses faced in the past 2 months during the lockdown, in the wake of the pandemic crisis, the Novel Coronavirus.

A few leaders of the BJP in Andhra Pradesh staged a protest with it’s alliance JanaSean Party.

The alliance of the BJP-JanaSena criticised the decision and said that it would hurt the sentiments of several devotees who donated the properties to the TTD.

Sunil Deodhar, a member of the BJP said, “The state government is only the patron of these assets, they have no right to sell these properties.”

Mr. Deodhar asked Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of A.P., to pass an ordinance and prevent the auction of the TTD properties.

Y.S. Satya Kumar, the National Secretary of the BJP said,  “Lord Balaji has blessed us to hold this protest by doing a day long fast to make the Andhra Pradesh Government realise that though this order has been kept in abeyance, BJP won’t let any such attempts to grab temple property to be successful and would fight tooth and nail.”

Another BJP member Sadineni Yamini Sharma said, “These assets are not a property of any state government or not donated by any committee, but they are the property of Hindu devotees. They are cheating devotees.  The TTD board should resign and give ownership of these assets to Hindu temples or to people who can maintain them.”

The TTD is the authority which manages the richest temple in India of  Lord Vekateswara in Tirupati.

The lockdown which started from the  24th of March, restricted devotees to visit temples which affected the donations or ‘Hundi’ alluring losses worth Rs. 400 crores in the last 2 months.

The lockdown is proposed to end on the 31st of May.
