Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party, on the 11th of September, launched a 12 hour long fast at his residence in Undavalli, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh (AP.)

Naidu started the hunger strike after the AP Police prevented him from conducting the ‘Chalo Atmakur’ rally against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)

The AP Police, on the 11th of September, put TDP President Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh under house arrest.

Apart from Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh, the AP Police detained many TDP leaders, Members of Parliament and others in prevention custody.

Chandrababu Naidu addressed the public at his residence and said, “It is a black day in the history of the State. We have been denied the right to give moral support to those who were victimized by the ruling party cadres. All that we wanted to do was to take out a rally and send the victims back to their villages. I don’t understand how it would lead to law and order breakdown.”

He also asked the TDP leaders across AP to go on a 12 hour hunger strike and stage a dharna against the AP Police and the YSRCP Government.

Gautam Sawang, the Director General of Police (DGP) of AP, announced the implementation of Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC.)

Naidu and TDP leaders will continue the dharna until they are allowed to conduct the rally.

Stay tuned for further updates.
