Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) challenged Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to resign as the Chief Minister if he fails to prove allegations against Naidu.

Mr. Naidu, on the 10th of December, addressed the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) during the ongoing Winter Session of the AP Assembly and asked Jagan Mohan Reddy to prove the allegations made by him against Chandrababu Naidu.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, alleged Naidu of selling onions at Rs. 200 per kg at the retail supermarket outlets of Heritage Foods Limited in Andhra Pradesh.  Mr. Reddy said the Heritage Foods outlets, owned by Chandrababu Naidu, are selling onions at Rs. 200/kg.

Jagan Mohan Reddy highlighted the efforts of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) the ruling government, which is selling onions at Rs. 25 per kg.  He said while the AP Government is selling onions at a cheaper rate, the Heritage supermarkets are selling the same onion at Rs. 200/kg.

In the past few days, the prices of onions in Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh rose to Rs. 150 per kg.

On the 10th of December, the TDP President responded to the allegations of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and said he is not the owner of the Heritage Foods is selling onions at Rs. 200.  He further said if Y.S. Jagan proves the allegations, he would resign as the MLA of Kuppam, AP.  However, Naidu added if Jagan Mohan Reddy is unable to prove the allegations, the latter has to resign as the CM of AP.

Naidu challenged Jagan Mohan Reddy on the 2nd day of the AP Assembly session and asked him to accept the challenge.  However, Jagan Mohan Reddy did not respond to it yet.

The Winter Session of the AP Assembly started on the 9th of December.
