Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra  Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 1st of April, addressed the citizens of A.P., regarding the ongoing situation, due to the COVID-19.

After the State Government reported 1,085 people participated in the Tablighi Jamaat religious congregation in Nizamuddin, Delhi, people were in a state of panic and chaos.

During the press meet, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the citizens to remain calm and assured them safety, due to the precautionary measures taken by the State Government.

Mr. Reddy said the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) is taking all the necessary steps and are in the process of tracking down all the returnees, of the Tablighi Jamaat, from Delhi who attended the event.

The Tablighi Jamaat Congregation, which was held between the 13th to the 16th of March, created panic amongst the citizens across India and has become an epicentre of the spread of COVID-19.

According to the State Government, on the 1st of April, 70 people out of 87 COVID-19 positive reported cases, are the ones who attended the Delhi event.

Jagan Mohan Reddy urged the citizens not to spread hatred and target any particular community.

Mr. Reddy asked people not to give it a community angle as the people are “just victims” and the COVID-19 has nothing to do with any religion or community.  The statement of Mr. Reddy came after many targeted the Muslim community and blamed them for the spread of the virus.

Mr. Reddy also urged all the participants of the Delhi event to come forward and get their COVID-19 tests done.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP Government traced 1,064 people and 585 tests were done so far.  Out of total, 585 samples sent for tests, 70 were positive, whereas the remaining 500 results are yet to come.

Only 15 were reported negative out of the total.  With these updates, Andhra Pradesh reported a total of 132 COVID-19 cases on the 2nd of April.
