Dinesh Kumar, the Joint Collector of Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, on the 19th of November, issued an order to conduct an inquiry about Vundavalla Sridevi’s caste.
Sridevi is the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Tadikonda and a member of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP.)
Sridevi contested the Assembly elections from the Tadikonda constituency against Shravan Kumar, the MLA candidate of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and won. However, after winning, during an interview, Sridevi revealed she is a Christian.
Later, Santosh, on behalf of the Legal Rights Protection Forum, complained against Sridevi, stating she was not eligible to contest the Assembly elections from Tadikonda constituency.
Santosh said the Assembly constituency from where Sridevi contested is meant for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs,) whereas Sridevi is a Christian.
Responding to Santosh’s complaint, the President’s Office directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to investigate the matter.
The EC of AP ordered Dinesh Kumar to submit an inquiry report as well as documents proving Sridevi belongs to the SC community.
In this regard, Dinesh Kumar asked MLA Sridevi to appear for a hearing with sufficient evidence on the 26th of November, at 3:00 P.M.
