Jagan Mohan Reddy Reviews Polavaram Project Progress, Says No Change In Project Height

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.,) on the 2nd of March, held a meeting over the construction of the Polavaram Project. During the meeting, Mr. Reddy discussed the height of Polavaram Irrigation project and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued warning over safe construction.

The Chief Minister also directed the officials to prepare designs of YSR Gardens at the Polavaram Project, keeping in view the environment protection. He said the garden should attract the future generations and should help to enrich the environment.

The YSR Gardens would be developed at G Hill site at a height of 100 feet near Polavaram project. The officials proposed a road bridge connecting the G Hill.

Besides the discussion over issues, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) President also reviewed the progress of the project. He also instructed the officials to complete the cofferdam works at Polavaram by 2021 May end.

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also enquired about the news regarding the height of the Polavaram, which has made headlines recently.

However, the concerned officials clarified and said, there is no question of reducing the height of the project.

Officials even informed Mr. Reddy about the Central Water Commission’s approval for the Polavaram height.

The height of the ongoing Polavaram Irrigation project would be 45.72 metres. However, there was speculation that the Central Government reduced the height to 41.1 metres. In regard to this, the Andhra Pradesh Government clarified and said, it was rumours spread with some vested interest and have no accuracy.

The Polavaram Project was started under the leadership of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Central Government. The Project is a multipurpose irrigation project which is expected to solve the water crisis in Andhra Pradesh.

Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) is going to construct the Polavaram Project which would cost Rs. 4,385 crores. The project is expected to be ready by 2021 end.
