Nara Chandrababu Naidu, the President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the Kodela Siva Prasad Rao suicide case.
On the 16th of September, Kodela Siva Prasad Rao, the former Andhra Pradesh (AP) Assembly Speaker and a member of the TDP, died after trying to hang himself. According to sources, Kodela was emotionally unstable due to the numerous criminal and corruption cases against him and his family members. Recently, Kodela Siva Prasad was even alleged of stealing furniture belonging to the AP Assembly and faced charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC.)
Chandrababu Naidu said the harassment of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) provoked Kodela to take the step of committing suicide. He said the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP is responsible for Kodela’s death.
Naidu said, “This is the first time in Indian history, a senior politician has committed suicide because of government harassment. The present YSRCP Government headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy has created so many problems for Kodela Siva Prasada Rao.” He further added, “They (the YSRCP) harassed him (Rao) physically, mentally and also financially. Never in my 40 year political career ( I have seen) this type of harassment.”
Mr. Naidu accused the YSRCP Government and said, “They initiated criminal prosecution against him. They insulted him. They humiliated him and finally (filed) so many cases against his family members, against him.” In addition, he said, “This Government has gone beyond the term terrorist. There is no logic in its actions. This is a fit case to study how people can be harassed.”
Naidu demanded a CBI probe in the matter and asked the YSRCP Government to respond as it is responsible for Kodela Siva Prasad Rao’s death.
The mortal remains of Kodela are kept at the TDP office in Guntur for last respects.
The last rites of Kodela Siva Prasad Rao will be held on the 18th of September.
