Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Andhra Pradesh, on the 10th of February, and addressed a public rally in Guntur.

During the rally, Mr. Modi took a dig at N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, and said, “Why does he (Chandrababu Naidu) often claim that he is senior to me? Yes, he is senior to me in switching sides, forming new alliances and ‘backstabbing’ his seniors, just the way he deceived his father in law (N.T. Rama Rao.)”

Modi also claimed, Naidu is losing popularity in the State as he is using the public’s money for his personal agenda and campaigns. On the other hand, Modi praised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Kanna Lakshminarayana, the BJP chief of Andhra Pradesh, for using his own money for campaigns.

Moving ahead, Mr. Modi also accused Naidu of giving preference to his son, N. Lokesh, over the State. He said, “The Chief Minister promised the development of Amaravati but is now engaged in his own development.”

Mr. Modi’s day was scheduled with rallies, events and launches. He launched several development projects in Andhra Pradesh. He laid the foundation for the construction of a coastal terminal of the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited at Krishnapatnam in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. Modi also inaugurated the Visakhapatnam Strategic Petroleum Reserve facility in the State. He ended his day by visiting Tiruppur and Raichur in Andhra Pradesh.

Modi’s visit to Andhra Pradesh is said to be his first visit after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) quit the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in 2018.

The campaign in the State is said to be a strategy to interact with the residents and gain voters, ahead of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections.

The State will contest 175 Assembly seats in the upcoming Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, scheduled between April and May 2019.
