Rahul Dev Sharma, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Kadapa district, on the 28th of March, wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI.)

In his letter, SP Rahul requested the ECI to prove the allegations of Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the President of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) against him.

Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged 3 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of Andhra Pradesh of having connections with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and working for the Party, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Vijayasai Reddy, a Member of Parliament of the YSRCP, met the ECI and registered a complaint against the TDP and the IPS officers.

Following the complaint, the ECI decided to transfer the IPS officers, A.B. Venkateswara Rao, the Intelligence Director General, Rahul Dev Sharma, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kadapa, and Venkata Ratnam, the SP of Srikakulam.

Rahul Dev Sharma, in his letter, demanded evidence to prove Jagan Mohan Reddy’s allegations. Sharma told the ECI to either prove the allegations or take action against Vijayasai Reddy.

Apart from Rahul Dev Sharma, Venkata Ratnam also wrote a letter to the ECI, expressing his anger towards the ECI and the YSRCP.

The TDP explained the YSRCP’s allegations as a strategy to defame the Party, ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh will contest a total of 175 seats and 25 seats in the upcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections respectively. The Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are scheduled on the 11th of April.

The results of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
