Visakhapatnam Ranks 3rd In Swachh Survekshan Award 2021

On the 2nd of April, the City of Visakhapatnam bagged the third position in terms of cleanliness. The Swachh Survekshan Award 2021, was given by the Central Government, to the cities achieving cleanliness goals. 

Swachh Survekshan is an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation in cities and towns across India. It was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, which aimed to make India clean and free of open defecation by 2019.

The City was given the third position as per the feedback of the citizens of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Besides cleanliness, cities were selected based on their urban infrastructure, sanitation, open defecation, construction of household toilets, transportation, and sanitation management.

The feedback survey was held from the 1st of January to the 31st of March. Till the 31st of March 2021, nearly 4,04,53,231 people submitted their feedback across India.

Of which Visakhapatnam ranked third out of 100 cities with the feedback of nearly 31 % of the total submitted feedback of people. According to the sources, more than 3.8 lakh Vizagites submitted their feedback for the survey.

The GVMC Commissioner G. Srijana, the Additional Commissioner and the Swachh Survekshan Nodal Officer Dr. V. Sanyasi Rao thanked the people of the City for their cooperation in the matter of feedback.

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) officials have also worked hard and implemented a special operation to bring awareness among the people regarding cleanliness. The people of Visakhapatnam also took the responsibility and kept their City clean which resulted in securing third position in the 2021 Swachh Survekshan Award.

In 2020, Visakhapatnam was on the 9th position in the list. However in just one year, the City moved ahead and secured the third position. Before 2021, Visakhapatnam stood at the third position in terms of cleanliness in 2017.
