Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) lashed out at Pawan Kalyan, the President of the JanaSena Party, for his remarks against English medium schools in AP.
The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP,) on the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, announced government schools in AP would be converted to English medium from the academic year beginning in 2020.
Opposition parties like the JanaSena Party and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) criticised this decision of the AP Government.
Responding to the criticism, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy raised a question and asked all the leaders of the opposition parties why they are against the introduction of English. Highlighting the necessity of English, Jagan said poor kids are facing difficulties in competitive exams. He further added if the State Government converts public schools to English medium, it would help the poor kids to write the competitive exams well. He further said converting government schools to English medium schools would help as English is mandatory for every competitive exam in India.
Jagan asked the opposition leaders where they studied, where their children are studying and where they plan to educate their grandchildren. Jagan also made a personal comment against Pawan Kalyan regarding his three marriages and children. He questioned where Pawan Kalyan completed his education and where his four children are studying.
On the occasion of National Education Day, Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke about the importance of education and English medium institutions in this competitive world. He said he wants to equip the government schools in AP with facilities like good infrastructure and washrooms, so all the students studying in public schools feel proud.
From the academic year starting 2020, schools in AP would be converted to English medium and Telugu and Urdu would be subjects included in the curriculum.
