Mr. Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, announced that the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has enhanced the compensation to the displaced families of the Polavaram project.
The compensation has been given under the Rehabilitation and Resettlement package amid the construction of the Polavaram irrigation project. He said that the government has also issued a Government Orders (GO) to that extent.
The statement of Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy came during the third day of the State Budget Assembly session, which started on the 15th of September. On the 19th of September, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy gave a strong counter to the criticism of the Telugu Desam Party over the rehabilitation programme.
Notably, the opposition, TDP accused the YSRCP of being a hurdle to the living of people near the Polavaram Project, saying the people are suffering due to the State Government. The statements and criticisms were made during the discussion on the Polavaram Project on Monday, the 19th of September.
To answer back the TDP and their false allegations, Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy showed the copy of the GO to the TDP members dated the 30th of June 2021 and clarified that he is bound by his word. Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Under R&R, if the previous government announced a compensation of Rs. 6.86 lakhs, we had increased to Rs. 10 lakh after coming to the power.”
Mr. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy also assured to transfer of the compensation money to the beneficiaries, after the rehabilitation programme is complete in the region.
Furthermore, the Andhra Pradesh Budget Assembly Session is set to continue till the 22nd of September.
