The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) elected Shaik Noorjahan as the Mayor of the Eluru Municipal Corporation (EMC.)
It is to be noted, Ms. Shaik Noorjahan won from the 50th Division of the Eluru Municipal Corporation and became the mayor for a second term. She first became the EMC Mayor in 2014.
In 2021 EMC elections, Ms. Noorjahan won with a majority of 1,495 votes against the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) candidate Mantri Lakshmi.
The elections for the Eluru Municipal Corporation were held on the 30th of March and the results were announced in July. The counting of votes was halted due to a filed petition in the HC. Some candidates approached the High Court alleging discrepancies in the voters lists, obtaining a stay order.
However, after months of pause, recently the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) permitted the counting of votes, following which, the results for the Eluru Municipal Corporation (EMC) elections were announced. According to the announced results on the 25th of July, the YSRCP secured 47 corporation seats out of the 50 seats. The remaining seats were secured by the TDP.
While the EMC election results were announced on Sunday (the 25th of July,) the EMC mayor and deputy mayor elections were held on the 30th of July. Shaik Noorjahan was elected as the EMC Mayor with unanimous decision and maximum votes.
After being elected as the Mayor of Eluru, Ms. Noorjahan extended gratitude to Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the A.P., Health Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas for electing her and giving the great opportunity. She also ensured to work towards the growth and development of Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh. Besides Ms. Noorjahan, N. Sudheer Babu and G. Srinivasa Rao were elected as deputy mayors of Eluru district.
Ms. Shaik Noorjahan, G. Srinivasa Rao and N. Sudheer Babu took over their respective office charges of the EMC today, the 30th of July.
