Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (AP,) on the 29th of July, constituted a three member committee to review the Kapu reservation issue.

The decision came after a meeting between Y.S. Jagan and the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) of the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) belonging to the Kapu community.

On the 29th of July, after the meeting, Jagan Mohan Reddy appointed Kurasala Kannababu, Ummareddy and Ambati Rambabu, the ministers of the YSRCP, to resolve the Kapu reservation matter.

During the meeting, Jagan brought up a letter given by the Central Government, dated the 4th of April. The letter was written to know about the State’s stand regarding Kapu reservation.

In the letter, the Centre also referred to the decision regarding the inclusion of Kapus into the Backward Castes (BCs) list and the provision of 5 % reservation to Kapus under the Other Backward Class category.

The YSRCP leaders also said this is not the first time the Centre demanded an answer regarding Kapu reservation. During the tenure of Chandrababu Naidu, the former Chief Minister of AP, the Centre asked regarding the matter, but Naidu did not reply to the letter.

The Committee will conduct a study about Kapu reservation and the Central law, following which, they will take the necessary steps in the future.

Stay tuned for further updates.
