Anil Kumar Yadav, the Irrigation Minister of Andhra Pradesh, announced the AP Government will call fresh tenders for the Polavaram Irrigation Project from the 17th of August.

The announcement came days after the State Government cancelled the contract of the Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL,) the former contractor for the Polavaram Project.

The contractor for the project will be decided by the end of September.  The fresh bids for the project will be taken till then, following which, the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) will finalise the contractor based on who gives the lowest bid.

Speaking about the process, Anil Kumar said the tenders will be taken freshly under the newly introduced reverse tendering procedure.  He further added the NECL can also bid again and participate in the procedure.

Anil Kumar Yadav said the State Government wants to reduce the expenses so the burden of the amount does not fall on the public exchequer, with the reverse tendering procedure.

Kumar also said the construction of the project will begin from the 1st of November and the project will be completed by June 2020.

Criticising the Telugu Desam Party (TDP,) the former Government of AP, Anil Kumar said the YSRCP will rectify all the irregularities of the TDP in the project and will start the project again.

As of now, the work on the Polavaram Project is suspended.

The Polavaram Project is a major multipurpose irrigation project situated on the Godavari river, in the East and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh.  The Project is under construction and once operational, it will help solve the issue of water scarcity in the State.

The work on the Polavaram Project will start again from the 1st of November and will be done by June 2020.

Stay tuned for further updates.
