The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) will soon form a new district, Alluri district, named after late Alluri Sitaramaraju, a revolutionary leader of Andhra Pradesh (AP.)

On the 4th of July, Avanthi Srinivasa Rao, the Tourism Minister of AP, declared, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of AP, ordered the formation of a new district in Visakhapatnam, named after late Sitaramaraju.

Rao garlanded the statues of Sitaramaraju at the Seethammadhara and Beach Road and said, the YSRCP will also discuss regarding a statue of Alluri at the AP Assembly.

The announcement was made during an event organised to celebrate the 122nd birth anniversary of Alluri Sitaramaraju, who contributed to the Indian independence movement. He also was a remarkable man who contributed for the welfare of the tribal people of Andhra Pradesh, due to which Alluri is popularly known as Manyam Veerudu (Hero of Jungles.)

During the event, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said, “The armed struggle and guerilla war waged by the revolutionary leader and his leadership qualities should be showcased for future generations.” He further added, “The revolutionary leader’s birth anniversary was being celebrated as State function for which Rs. 10 lakh was released by the Government.”

Lalam Bhavani, the Zilla Parishad Chairperson, Praveen Kumar, the Director of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC,) U.V. Ramanamurthy Raju, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the YSRCP and Purnima Devi, the District Tourism Officer, were among the many who were at the event.
