The Andhra Pradesh Government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, announced Rs. 15,000 funeral expenses aid. The financial assistance for the funeral would be given to the families of people who lost their lives due to the Wuhan virus also known as Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19.) 

On the 16th of May, Anil Kumar Singhal, the Principal Secretary to the State Government, issued an official notification regarding the same. According to the issued notification, the State Government would provide an amount of Rs. 15,000 to conduct the last rites. Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, took the decision after following incidents where the families of COVID-19 victims were unable to conduct the funerals due to financial difficulties.

The notice read, “Government, hereby, accord permission to all the district collectors to the state for sanction of an amount of Rs 15,000 towards funeral charges to the death of every COVID patients (sic.)” It further read, “The permission accorded above, is subject to meet the expenditure from the allotted funds of combating COVID-19.”

The required amount would be released by the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare of Andhra Pradesh. The amount would be given to the respective District collectors in the State.

In 2020 also, the YSRCP Government announced Rs. 15,000 for the last rites of the people who died due to the Wuhan virus.

Besides the State Government, many social organisations and non government organizations (NGOs) are conducting the last rites of the patients.
