The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 vaccination drive kick started in Telangana.
The Telangana Health Minister Eatala Rajender and the Union Home Minister for State G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated the drive at the State run Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also participated in the event through a video conference.
Narendra Modi surprised all the Telugu people with a poem written by a noted freedom fighter and writer Gurujada Appa Rao.
The first vaccination vials were administered to the sanitation staff in Hyderabad.
The Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan launched the vaccination drive at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS,) the Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and the Health Minister Eatala Rajender at the Gandhi Hospital.
The Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) K.T. Rama Rao launched the drive at the urban primary health centre (UPHC) in Tilak Nagar.
Other Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) launched the drive in their respective districts.
The vaccination drive began at 140 centres across Telangana.
Each centre would administer the COVID-19 vaccine to 30 people, which would be 4,170 people today.
S. Kistamma, a sanitation worker becomes the first person to get COVID-19 vaccine in Telangana.
The persons who were given the vaccination are ink marked on the thumb of their left hand.
In the first phase, nearly 80 lakh people would get COVID-19 vaccination in Telangana.
