The Wuhan virus or Novel Coronavirus vaccine delivery application by Indian Government CoWIN platform, would soon be available in Hindi.

On the 17th of May, the Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan made the announcement to launch the CoWIN portal in Hindi and 14 regional languages by the next week.

As of now, the portal is available only in one language, that is English. The official announcement was made after a high level meeting held on the 17th of May. High level officials, Union Health Ministry officials and concerned personnel attended the meeting chaired by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister. This was the 26th high level meeting with the group of ministers to discuss COVID-19 situation, variants of the virus, additional facilities, and the CoWIN portal.

A government official who wished to be anonymous said, “This was in the pipeline for some time keeping in mind the convenience of people who are not comfortable with the English language. The portal will be tweaked accordingly.”

Besides taking decisions over the CoWIN Portal language, the officials also discussed the Central Government’s decision to add 17 more laboratories to the Indian Sars-Cov-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG.) Adding new laboratories would scale up genome sequencing of samples of the Wuhan virus patients. Currently, there are 10 INSACOG laboratories in the country.

The government official said, “Seventeen new labs are going to be added to the INSACOG network to increase the number of samples screened and allow for more spatial analysis. The network is presently served by 10 labs located at different corners of the country.”

Meanwhile, the Union Health Minister also spoke about the declining number of Wuhan virus cases in India. Mr. Harsh Vardhan said, “India’s Covid-19 new cases have dropped to less than 3 lakh for the first time after 26 days. Also, a net decline of 1,01,461 cases have been recorded in the active caseload in the last 24 hours.”

As of now, India has 25,228,100 positive cases, of which 33,48,890 are active cases, 21,590,137 are recovered/discharged cases and 2,78,751 are deceased cases.

Stay tuned for further updates.
