For the ninth day, India recorded more than 3.50 lakh cases of the Novel Coronavirus. The daily cases mark is rising rapidly in India, creating fear and panic amongst the citizens.

On the morning of the 30th of April, the Union Health Ministry confirmed as many as 3,86,452 new COVID-19 cases with 3,498 deaths. The figures were confirmed and updated through the official website of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW.) According to the website data, in the last 24 hours, India reported 3.86 lakh new cases, 3.4 k deaths and 2,97,540 recoveries. With this, India’s COVID-19 caseload is now 18,762,976, of which 15,384,418 are recoveries, 31,70,228 are active cases and 2,08,330 are deceased cases. In addition, on the 30th of April, the Indian Council of Medical Research confirmed 28,63,92,086 samples tested up to 29th April 2021, for COVID-19. Of these 19,20,107 samples were tested yesterday, the 29th of April. Till the 30th of April, nearly

15,22,45,179 people have been vaccinated so far in the ongoing vaccination drive.

In terms of cases, Maharashtra is followed by Kerala with 38,607 fresh cases and Uttar Pradesh 35,156. Delhi recorded 395 COVID-19 deaths and around 24,235 cases with a positivity rate of 32.82 %. Karnataka reported a new all time record of 39,047 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Adding to it, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also a few worst COVID-19 hit states.

Highlighting the current situation of COVID-19, with lack of oxygen and medical facilities for patients, the situation is more complex and difficult. People are dying in huge numbers due to COVID-19 infection, low oxygen supply and lack of hospital services like medicines, beds and others.

Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram are flooded with heartbreaking posts and situations of people. Posts include, demand of oxygen, the antiviral drug Remdesivir infection and others for people who are COVID-19 infected and in critical condition

In order to curb the situation, several state governments like the governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Puducherry, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan, imposed a partial lockdown, a complete lockdown or night curfews in their respective areas.

On the other hand, in order to take a crucial decision and review the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to chair a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers. This would be the first meeting of the council of ministers in the aftermath of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
