India Reports 14,256 New COVID-19 Cases, Active Cases Below 2 Lakhs

The Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases reached a total of 1.6 crore in India till date. 

According to sources, the Union Health Ministry confirmed 14,256 new cases of the COVID-19 infection.

Fresh 14,256 cases pushed India’s Covid-19 caseload to 10,639,684.

The death toll was at 153,184 with new 152 deceased cases.

In addition, the total recoveries have increased to 1,00,03,838 in India with 1,85,662 lakh active cases.

The Union Ministry of Health confirmed 96.80 % recovery with 1.47 % fatality rate and 2 % active caseload.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that 19,09,85,119 samples were tested for COVID-19 in the country till the 22nd of January, Of total 8,37,095 were tested yesterday.

In India, Maharashtra: 20,03,657 (includes recoveries, deaths and active cases) Karnataka (9,34,576) Andhra Pradesh, (8,86,694) Kerala (8,77,282) and Tamil Nadu, 8,33,585 are worst COVID-19 hit states.

Currently, India is conducting the biggest nationwide vaccination drive. The nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive was organised after two India made vaccines got approval for emergency use authorisation (EUA.)

The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved the Serum Institute of India (SII) made Covishield and the Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech International Private Limited made COVAXIN, for the drive.

In the first phase of the drive over 10 lakh people have been given at least their first dose of the vaccines.

The drive which kick started on the 16th of January would continue until the citizens of India would be vaccinated for the COVID-19 infection.

The Central Government announced COVID-19 vaccine to be given free of cost to every citizen of India.
