K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, warned the citizens of Telangana of another lockdown due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.

Mr. Rao, on the 23rd of November, appealed to the people of Telangana, to strictly follow the guidelines for the prevention of the COVID-19 infection.

To prevent the spread of the infection, people are asked to maintain social distancing, wear face masks, use sanitizer and avoid going out unnecessarily.

According to the Health officials of Telangana, the State is likely to witness a second wave of the Novel Coronavirus. If the people of Telangana fail to follow the protocols of COVID-19, the State Government, ruled by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) would impose a second statewide lockdown.

Mr. Rao addressed the media and said, “Though the situation is better in Telangana, people should not be careless and ensure that they take personal protection measures. The State Government has already placed its machinery on the alert and is ready to provide all support to people in terms of treatment. However, personal discipline to follow COVID-19 guidelines will have far-reaching impact in controlling the pandemic.”

In addition, Mr. Rao urged people to wear face masks, wash hands frequently, maintain physical distance and also avoid crowds or mass gatherings. He also said, “These simple measures are our most effective weapons to prevent spread of the virus in the State a second time. We are hopeful of normal functioning only if people act responsibly. We need to be extra cautious since the pandemic could intensify during the winter season.”

On the other hand, the State Government also said the State Health Department would increase COVID-19 testing up to 75,000 tests per day and had already procured nearly two lakh home isolation kits to be supplied to COVID-19 patients.

In addition, nearly 10,000 beds with oxygen facilities have been kept ready, besides making arrangements for oxygen cylinders supply in certain primary health centres in remote areas.

Meanwhile, till the 24th of November, Telangana reported 2,64,128 positive cases of COVID-19, of which 11,227 are active cases, 2,51,468 recovered/discharged cases and 1,433 deceased.

Stay tuned for further updates.
