The Central Government, on the 5th of January, Wednesday, approved the booster shot for COVID-19 (the Wuhan virus.)

In a statement, the Central Government said, same COVID-19 vaccine dose would be given as the “third dose” also known as “precautionary dose”. On Wednesday, the Government said, ” No mix and match will be allowed.”

Therefore, people who received the Serum Institute of India (SII) manufactured Covishield will take same vaccine, whereas ones who received the Bharat Biotech manufactured COVAXIN vaccination, will have COVAXIN as booster dose.

The approval of booster dose came at a time of Omicron threat and COVID-19 cases are rising rapidly in India.

Meanwhile, the booster dose for people above 60 years old and people with Comorbidities would be given from the 10th of January in India.
