OGH Witnesses Floods After Overnight Rains, Doctors Protest Amid Covid-19

Once again after overnight rains in Hyderabad, the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) witnessed inundation of parts of a few wards in the Quli Qutb Shah Block of the OGH.

On the morning of the 23rd of July, the Quli Qutb Shah Block witnessed floods inside the wards.

The Quli Qutb Shah block, constructed in 2019 is one of the new buildings, made in the century old Osmania General Hospital premises.

This is the second time water flooded in the wards of the OGH.

Recently, patients were vacated after knee deep water flooded into the wards.

Dr. Pandu Naik, the in charge Superintendent of the OGH, said, “We have already alerted the TSMSIDC officials to take up repairs. We suspect rainwater leakage might be the reason for the water entering a few patient recovery wards. There have been no complaints in the past on the structural integrity of the building. In fact, infrastructure wise, the Quli Qutb Shah Block is the best structure in the OGH.”

The Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) engineers immediately addressed the issue and rushed to fix the water leakage issue of Quli Qutb Shah Block in OGH.

The Osmania General Hospital Joint Action Committee (OGHJAC) and the Telangana State Government Doctors Association (TSGDA) are protesting against the State Government and OGH administration.

The doctors and staff are continuing the staged protest with a strategy of abstaining from work for an hour. The protest starts at 9:00 A. M., and ends at 10:30 A. M., every day but the Government seems unresponsive.

According to sources, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC,) after examination, have declared the structure unsafe.

Stay tuned for further updates.
