In order to vaccinate 100% population with booster or precautionary dose, the Telangana Health Minister Mr. T. Harish Rao wrote to the Union Government.

On the 18th of January, Mr. T. Harish Rao wrote a letter to Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, seeking precautionary dose or booster dose for population above 18 years old.  In the letter, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Minister asked to send doses for all and urged to reduce vaccine dose gap between second dose and booster dose to six months for all and three months for healthcare workers.

Notably, as per the Union Health Ministry, the appropriate gap between the COVID-19 second dose and booster dose should be nine months.

Mr. T. Harish Rao also requested Mr. Mansukh Mandaviya to include senior citizens (above 60 years of age) for the precautionary dose irrespective of comorbidities.

Giving reasons for the aforementioned requests, the Telangana Health Minister said, if approved, these steps could enable the government to protect the population from severe morbidity and mortality associated with COVID-19 infection.  Mr. Harish Rao also mentioned that the requests are based on the booster dose policies being implemented in countries like the United States of America (U.S.A.,) and the United Kingdom (U.K.)

Meanwhile, currently as per the TRS Government, the Wuhan virus pandemic situation in Telangana is under control, with below 6,000 active cases, till date.

Meanwhile, the vaccination drive in Telangana is also continuing with speed, to vaccinate the majority of the eligible population.
